Buying guide

Choosing the right travel trailer.

From compact couples’ coaches to bunkhouse floorplans that sleep the whole crew, a travel trailer is the most flexible way to camp. Hitch to the ball on the truck you already own and be at Strawberry Reservoir before the coffee gets cold.

Get a tow-vehicle match
  1. 01

Match the trailer to the truck

Start with your tow vehicle’s rating, not the floorplan. Keep the trailer’s GVWR comfortably under your truck’s tow rating and the loaded hitch weight under its payload. Our “Half-ton towable” badge flags units we’d happily put behind a properly equipped half-ton.

  2. 02

    Bunkhouse or couples’ layout?

Bunkhouses (BH) add a dedicated kids’ room and are worth every foot if you camp with family. Rear-bed and rear-living couples’ plans trade bunks for a bigger kitchen and lounge.

  3. 03

    Think about where you’ll camp

National park campgrounds at Zion and Bryce favor rigs under about 30 feet. If boondocking near Moab is the goal, prioritize tank size, solar and ground clearance over square footage.
