If the Swift is the classic teardrop, the Nomad T16X is its adventurous younger brother. Bluebird built it on an independent suspension with 29-inch all-terrain tires, an articulating hitch and skid plates, and it is designed to follow a midsize SUV or overlanding truck onto dirt roads near Moab and the San Rafael Swell.

It is still simple: a queen bed inside with walnut cabinets, and a rear galley with a two-burner stove, sink and slide-out fridge drawer. What sets it apart is power and water. The 200-watt solar, 200Ah lithium battery, 1,000-watt inverter and 22-gallon fresh tank let you stay out longer, and the diesel-style heater handles cold desert nights.

At about 1,820 pounds dry, it tows easily and barely affects fuel economy. Roof rack, side awning and outdoor shower are included, so you can load up and head straight for the trail.
